Climate Zone: All-Season Zone
Kanata is one of the Ten Great Sovereigns and a technocratic state whose political and economic power rests on information. Its Executive Chief leads a government shaped by expertise, privatization, deregulation, and the commodification of information, technology, and human services.
The country’s capital is Orange, and it is approximately 99% Norman. Its defining geographical feature is its complete location in the central All-Season Zone, where the major climate systems collide.
Its defining political tension is the relationship between technocratic governance and private information power. Kanata hosts the Ruseas Company and its Rumor Mill, while also maintaining a soft alliance with Delsur, from which it obtains its technology.
Geography & Climate
Kanata lies entirely in the All-Season Zone. This is Kepler’s only region with dynamic weather throughout the year. Warm, wet, dry, and cold systems collide there, creating rapid changes and extreme precipitation during Raging Spring.
Kanatanese architecture depends on modular infrastructure, drainage, weather forecasting, transport resilience, and rapidly reconfigurable public spaces. Because the country’s power is informational, climate-control and communication networks are treated as national security systems.
Kanata’s central location gives it diplomatic accessibility but also exposure. It has no mountains or permanently restricted borders.
Its most important landmarks are data centers, administrative complexes, media districts, transport hubs, and secure corporate facilities.
Government & Politics
Kanata is ruled by a technocratic government led by an Executive Chief.
Its economy is neoliberal, with extensive privatization and deregulation. Information is the foundation of the national economy.
The elite class consists of data scientists, technical experts, and organizations that control access to information.
Economic Overview
Kanata is a nation in the business of trading rumors and secrets, where everyone is the suspect and everyone is the victim.
- GDP: 300 billion UK
- GDP per capita: Approximately 18,750 UK
- Currency: Delsuri Insignia Merit (DIM) and Uttarian Koin (UK)
Relationship with the Continental Border Assault Regiment
Kanata is a sovereign state and therefore receives top C-BAR protection priority. It must fund C-BAR and normally controls entry.
Kanata regards C-BAR as both a security service and a source of valuable intelligence. It supports the Regiment’s border mission but resists military oversight of information networks, media companies, and private research.
Kanata’s soft alliance with Delsur, combined with Delsur’s soft alliances with Uttaria, creates a technological and commercial triangle.
The Ruseas Company’s presence makes Kanata influential even when its official diplomacy is less visible.
History
Recognition and Technocratic Formation
Kanata was recognized on May 27, 157 XE. Prior to Teranua’s recognition on December 27, 225 XE, Kanata was the last recognized sovereign for over 67 years.
Its modern identity centers on technocratic rule and informational capitalism.
The Information Economy
Kanata treats information as a commodity. Its economy connects to the underground scenes of every country on Kepler.
The distinction between public administration and private data ownership is almost nonexistent.
The Rumor Mill Era
The Ruseas Company operates in Kanata and distributes information across Kepler. Its publications cover politics, economics, Psinecraft, scandals, and rankings.
The company claims independence from political factions and national governments, but it works with sources inside all of them.
The 299 XE Crisis
The Warden’s Maw breach transforms information into immediate political power. The Rumor Mill frames the escape as a historical moment and ranks Tulburo first among dangerous psions, along with several other escapees.
Kanata is always among the first states to understand that crises are also contests over narrative control. It may profit from increased demand for information while simultaneously fearing that uncontrolled rumors can destabilize the government itself.
Culture & Society
Kanata is approximately 99.9% Norman. Its social order emphasizes education, technical competence, data access, and market participation.
The small non-Norman population is practically invisible, especially among the lower social grades. In Kanata, people generally care little about whether someone can make effective use of Psinecraft or contribute informationally.
Crescent
Crescent is one of Kanata’s few major pastimes, and it fits naturally within its information culture because the game rewards hidden cards, probabilistic judgment, deception, and reading an opponent’s behavior.
Major Kanatanese establishments prefer the End of Icarus variant, where calculated risks and partial restrictions reward strategic inference. Data-driven players also favor Solar Eclipse blocks because they separate visible offensive information from concealed defensive information.
