Elsa D. Alfson is a defiant painter, truth-seeker, and restricted citizen of Teranua. She is very instincts driven and finds it hard to learn things that can’t be “felt” by her. She is also a natural at any of the arts.

Born in Hordad to two renowned Hordic scientists, Erik and Freya Alfson, Elsa grew up surrounded by scientific brilliance but never inherited her parents’ passion for research.

While her parents were certified geniuses who devoted their lives to science, Elsa was drawn toward art—paintings, sculptures, and music. Much to her parents’ chagrin, she dreamed of becoming an artist rather than a scientist. Despite their differences, however, her parents respected Elsa’s freedom, and Elsa deeply respected the importance of their work.

Elsa’s life changed in 289 XE, two weeks after the Calamity of Curia when her parents were killed by Carrington’s Regime. Following their deaths, Elsa dedicated herself to escaping Teranua and uncovering the buried secrets surrounding the Calamity of Curia.

Because of her repeated attempts to flee Teranua, interference with the law, unauthorized use of Psinecraft, and theft of rations, Elsa is classified as a restricted citizen.

She currently resides within an old Lalume shrine atop Mount Falle, overlooking Dempsey. The shrine provides her with a secluded refuge whenever major events occur within Teranua or the kingdom attempts to conceal information from the outside world.

Elsa also uses a psine-powered holo-scroll, an advanced portable communication and information device, to remain informed about events beyond Teranua and stay connected to the outside world.

Art is freedom.

—Elsa Alfson

Elsa possesses the Psinecraft known as Alpha-Omega, an ability that allows her to modify the timeline and life cycle of objects, people, or specific body parts.

As a Modifier, Elsa alters the existing rules of reality by accelerating or reversing a subject’s position or state of being. She can effectively move something forward or backward through its natural cycle.

This allows Elsa to perform seemingly impossible acts, such as seamlessly restoring shattered glass to its original form or reversing it further through its lifecycle until it becomes raw sand.

Brush stroke one.

—Elsa Alfson

The Art of the Cycle

Elsa views Alpha-Omega not simply as a weapon, but as an extension of her artistic philosophy. To her, creation, destruction, restoration, and decay are all parts of the same cycle.

Although Elsa is officially classified as Weapons-grade, her true potential remains unseen as the upper limits of her ability is surpressed by her own moral compass. She possesses a deep-seated aversion to destruction and causing physical harm when it can be avoided.

As a result, Elsa deliberately refuses to push Alpha-Omega toward its most devastating potential, both in combat and when interacting with the environment.

The Family Locket

Elsa carries a dulled bronze locket containing a photograph of her parents. It serves as her physical tether to the past and one of the primary catalysts behind her mission to uncover the truth surrounding their deaths.

Elsa was born in Hordad to two brilliant Hordic scientists. In 285 XE, she moved with her parents to Teranua after King Harold called for scientists, researchers, and scholars from across Kepler.

King Harold sought to develop a strategy for tactfully bridging the enormous gap between the centuries-old traditions of Psinecraft and psions and the knowledge, beliefs, and experiences of Teranua’s completely Norman population which had never even witnessed Psinecraft.

Elsa’s parents joined the Hematic Research Institute in Dempsey, where they would go on to make numerous breakthroughs.

Elsa, meanwhile, remained more interested in art than science.

Despite this difference, Elsa never resented her parents’ work. She admired their dedication to science, while they respected her desire to pursue her own path.

The Hematic Research Institute became the center of Elsa’s childhood after her family settled in Dempsey. Her parents were among the scientists attempting to bridge the divide between Normans and psions, hoping to prove that coexistence between the two populations was not only possible, but natural.

Their research eventually produced a groundbreaking discovery. Elsa’s parents became the first scientists in the modern era to independently discover ██████████.

However, their discovery ultimately led them down a far darker path. Their research uncovered highly classified information that threatened the state of Teranua and potentially the wider world.

The information was eventually discovered by Carrington, who had been one of the radical guards serving under King Harold before eventually succeeding him as King.

The discovery ultimately cost Elsa’s parents their lives in 289 XE shortly after the Calamity of Curia. Their work was silenced, leaving Elsa orphaned and trapped within a kingdom that would subsequently outlaw and suppress the very nature of people like her.

Elsa became convinced that her parents’ research—or the discoveries they made—was connected to the Calamity of Curia in Evelyn. She has spent the years since their deaths attempting to reach Curia and uncover what truly happened there.

Elsa’s ultimate goal is to reach the ruins of Curia and uncover the truth buried there.

Armed with her Art of the Cycle—Alpha-Omega, Elsa is determined to discover why her parents were killed and what their research uncovered.

She also intends to find Tulburo Lume, whose escape from Warden’s Maw she views as the catalyst that may finally allow her to uncover the truth.

Elsa is willing to pursue that truth even if doing so kills her—or destroys the world in the process.

I will find him. I will find the truth. Even if it ends me. If the world’s going to unravel, I want to paint it as it falls.

—Elsa Alfson

Despite her relentless determination, Elsa is dangerously selfless. She will willingly place herself in harm’s way if doing so means saving an innocent person.

She views those who choose to run from injustice or turn a blind eye to corruption as enablers of the very systems that allow corruption to survive.

As a follower of Lalumism, Elsa views those who commit sins such as murder as acting in the vein of—or attempting to emulate—the gods.

Tulburo Lume

Although Elsa and Tulburo have never met, she views his escape as a catalyst for finally uncovering the truth surrounding Curia and her parents’ deaths.

She finds the circumstances surrounding the Calamity of Curia deeply suspicious. Giovanni Mari, who defeated Tulburo, has never publicly explained exactly how he accomplished it and immediately retired from C-BAR afterward to become a politician and subsequently Vice President of the World Council.

To Elsa, these circumstances raise questions about what truly happened at Curia and why she thinks Tulburo’s defeat was connected to the secrets her parents uncovered.

Giovanni Mari

Giovanni was close with Elsa’s parents, yet he has never revealed anything suggesting that he knew the circumstances surrounding their deaths. He has not even publicly acknowledged their deaths.

Elsa therefore remains uncertain about Giovanni’s true position. She does not know whether he is someone who possesses knowledge of the secrets surrounding her parents and intends to expose the corruption, or whether he himself has become politically corrupted or deeply compromised.
