Giovanni Mari was born in Taured, Metzia during the later years of the Adventurer’s Boom. His parents were average Tool-grade adventurers who had never left Metzia, but Giovanni was born with an intense desire to roam free.

It was this desire for exploration that many believed rekindled the flames of global exploration and contributed to the resurgence and birth of the new Seven Great Wanderers.

Giovanni was not a genius, but his sheer grit, desire to learn, and passion for helping others propelled him to a meteoric rise as a Great Wanderer and eventually earned him a scholarship at Ashura Grando University.

Exploration begins the moment you accept that chaos is not an obstacle, but a companion.

—Giovanni Mari

Giovanni would eventually become one of the most influential figures of his generation, transitioning from an adventurous wanderer and swordsman into a scholar, soldier, politician, and eventually Vice President of the World Council.

Despite his immense power and reputation, Giovanni’s philosophy was never centered around domination. His greatest strength was his ability to exercise restraint.

Giovanni’s psinecraft is Atom Genesis, an ability capable of creating matter and phenomena from nothing.

At the absolute height of his power, Giovanni possessed Nuclear-grade output. Theoretical estimates suggested that his ability could potentially create entire countries from thin air.

Atom Genesis was not limited to large-scale destruction. Giovanni demonstrated an extraordinary degree of precision and control over the matter he created.

During his confrontation with a young Julius Aurelius, Giovanni used Atom Genesis to mimic the weight of Lex Imperium laws by generating physical matter directly onto Julius, forcing him to his knees beneath an unbearable weight.

Atom Genesis Bowl

Giovanni created the Atom Genesis Bowl, a bowl encoded with his psine that could endlessly reproduce the last meal Ramone placed inside it.

The creation was discovered by Delsuri scientists sometime during Giovanni’s trip to Delsur in 287 XE. The principles behind the bowl eventually contributed to the invention of Delsur’s 3D printers.

Asvyxia

Legendary sword used by Giovanni Mari during his Wanderer days.

Unlike individuals who rely on raw domination, Giovanni’s combat philosophy is built around absolute restraint and precision.

He believes that true mastery over power comes not from using as much force as possible, but from possessing the discipline to use exactly as much force as necessary.

This philosophy was demonstrated when Giovanni effortlessly neutralized the Lex Imperium of fifteen-year-old Julius Aurelius.

Dominate or be Dominated.

-Julius Aurelius

Giovanni’s philosophy was fundamentally different. To him, power without restraint was not mastery at all.

Even as a Nuclear-grade psion, Giovanni would rely mostly on his discipline sword skills rather than his Psinecraft, before gifting his legendary sword, Asvyxia, to the World Council.

August 30, 259 XE: Giovanni leaves Holy Metzia at the age of thirteen to begin his journey across Kepler.

September 11, 259 XE: Giovanni officially earns the title of Great Wanderer, becoming the first Great Wanderer of the era.

Giovanni’s reputation grew rapidly as he traveled across Kepler. He became known not because of extraordinary intellect or overwhelming power alone, but because of his willingness to venture into the unknown, learn from the people he encountered, and help those in need.

Romana eventually joined the Continental Border Assault Regiment in 272 XE.

Giovanni and Romana eventually settled in Atteria in 280 XE, while Wolfgang eventually returned to Sang.

287 XE: During an expedition to Delsur, Giovanni was successfully recruited by the World Council to join the Continental Border Assault Regiment.

His recruitment sent shockwaves across the world. Giovanni became the first Great Wanderer to officially work with or join a government institution, helping contribute to the reduction of rogue individuals and criminals operating against the World Council.

Later that year, Giovanni was promoted to C-BAR Commander of the Northern Division.

During his time as commander, he took Princess Kiara Ikari Amakusaye De Eiria and Ryunosuke Sakata under his wing. He trained both of them in the Art of The Blade and eventually helping Sakata negotiate favorable terms to join him at C-BAR.

288 XE: After years of searching, the World Council and C-BAR finally located fellow Great Wanderer Dreyk Ignis.

Ignis had killed the previous C-BAR General, Musashi Amakusa, in 280 XE.

Giovanni confronted and defeated Dreyk Ignis at the Eiria-Holy Metzia border. The encounter resulted in Ignis being imprisoned at Warden’s Maw.

You’re right, kid. We’re unstoppable, right?

—Giovanni Mari (with Romana) to Ramone

289 XE: The Calamity of Curia. Giovanni’s division engaged Tulburo Lume.

Romana was killed during the conflict, and Giovanni’s division was wiped out. The rest of Evelyn, however, was spared.

Giovanni emerged as one of only three confirmed survivors, although some sources count Tulburo himself among the survivors.

Following the catastrophe, Giovanni was hailed as The Hero of Curia.

This was the last time Giovanni publicly used Atom Genesis. The exact circumstances surrounding how he defeated Tulburo were never disclosed.

Giovanni retired from the Continental Border Assault Regiment later that year and was subsequently elected Vice President of the World Council.

Following the Calamity of Curia, Giovanni has never publicly used Atom Genesis again.

Global analysts and the Rumor Mill have speculated that Giovanni either sacrificed his power in order to neutralize Tulburo Lume or suffered a massive burnout that permanently damaged his ability.

November 3, 296 XE: Giovanni Mari ran for Prime Minister of Atteria and was elected by the people to represent them in the House of Atteria.

Giovanni defeated Duke Vasotrus Aurelius in the election, granting him equal say in Atterian politics alongside the entire Congress of Aristocrats.

His election was heavily opposed by members of the Congress. Some opposition stemmed from Giovanni being a Metzian-born immigrant and his lifetime appointment as Vice President of the World Council. Critics argued that his interests were elsewhere and that he could not properly represent Atteria.

However, much of the opposition was driven by concerns over the growing political power of the Mari family.

Ramone had received his Baron title only a year earlier and was already considered the leading candidate for succession to the throne. Giovanni’s political rise therefore represented another major expansion of Mari influence within Atteria.

Ramone Mari

Giovanni does not do much hand-holding or spoon-feeding with Ramone. He views his son as a younger, smarter version of himself, believing Ramone inherited his intelligence from Romana and his wanderlust from Giovanni.

Rather than imposing his own worldview upon Ramone, Giovanni allows him to discover things on his own terms and develop his own beliefs. At the same time, he tries to protect Ramone from as much danger as possible without preventing him from experiencing the world for himself.

Romana Mari

Giovanni considered Romana too intelligent for the life she chose. He believed she should have become a scientist or medical specialist rather than an explorer and later a C-BAR soldier, though he never told her this.

He viewed his wife as one of the most brilliant minds and kindest people he had ever known. He would not have wanted to start a family with anyone else.

Giovanni knew that Romana was deeply family-oriented and would sacrifice herself for anyone within her family.

His decision to allow her to accompany him to Curia may be the greatest regret of his life, although he has never spoken publicly about it.

Benjamin Ramsey

Giovanni met Benjamin Ramsey when Benjamin was still a Sergeant and Giovanni had not yet joined C-BAR.

Benjamin revealed that he was born in Uttaria in a city populated heavily by Normans. He also told Giovanni about the harsh conditions faced by Strigois in Uttaria and the tensions between Normans and Psions.

Benjamin had joined C-BAR to prevent rogue mages from giving Psions a bad name and was eager to recruit Giovanni.

The two eventually developed a strong bond through their shared desire to bridge the divide between Normans and Psions. They came to treat one another as family and eventually became sworn brothers.

Benjamin was later assigned as a lieutenant in Giovanni’s division, but illness prevented him from accompanying the team to Curia.

Vladimir von Millavir

Giovanni considers Vladimir an immensely strong individual, but believes he is far too dark and brooding. Giovanni would frequently encourage him to simply “live a little.”

Luke Alexander-Walker

As one of Giovanni’s commanders, Luke earned his respect for his strength, authority, and worldview. However, Giovanni viewed him as too stringent and overly dependent on precedence and established procedures.

Giovanni believed Luke was not malleable enough to adapt when circumstances demanded it, though he never dismissed his capabilities or authority.

Julius Aurelius

Giovanni views Julius as an impatient person who fundamentally misunderstands the nature of power.

Julius believes that the first rule of power is “Dominate or be Dominated” and that regardless of how powerful someone becomes, “Everyone has a threshold.”

Giovanni believes the first rule of power is restraint.

Despite Julius viewing Giovanni differently, Giovanni never considered him a rival. He regarded Julius as a promising child burdened by inherited arrogance and possessing far more power than balance.

You’ve forgotten the first rule of power, boy. If you must command it, you’ve already lost it.

—Giovanni Mari

The Alfsons

Giovanni respected the Alfsons for their scientific, practical, and social work, which complemented what he and Benjamin Ramsey were attempting to achieve militarily and diplomatically.

They invited Giovanni and Romana many times to the Hematic Research Institute. Although Giovanni could never fully understand their research, he was always willing to help wherever he could.

Kiara Ikari Amakusaye De Eiria

Giovanni views Kiara as an unparalleled sword prodigy who is on pace to far surpass both him and Ryunosuke in swordsmanship because of her psinecraft, coupled with her raw skill relative to her age.

Their training became increasingly focused on adaptability in combat and discipline. Giovanni believed these qualities would help bridge the gap against more powerful and experienced fighters in ways that raw swordsmanship alone could not.

Ryunosuke Sakata

Giovanni views Ryunosuke Sakata like the older son he never had. Sakata was the first person Giovanni met early in his C-BAR career who made the job feel like something more than a total bore.

Sakata possessed some of the youthful curiosity Giovanni had displayed in his own youth, but with far more discipline already instilled in him.

Ever since they met, Sakata had been clamoring to be trained by Giovanni, whom he viewed as the second-greatest swordsman after his late sensei, Musashi Amakusa. This respect for both men eventually inspired Sakata to join C-BAR himself.

His training under Giovanni was immense and heavily skill-driven. He worked endlessly on his techniques, his swings, and the subtle positioning of his blade, learning how to cut with graceful delicacy and fluid movement.

After his training, Sakata’s technique had completely transcended his raw physical power. He became capable of cutting through illusions, projectiles, and even diamond through pure skill, exploiting his understanding of exact weak points, vectors, and frequencies within reality itself.

Giovanni later offered Sakata the legendary sword Asvyxia, but Sakata refused it. Giovanni subsequently entrusted the sword to the World Council, telling Sakata to claim it should the day ever come when he changes his mind.
